The main characters are Carnage (Cletus Kassady) and the Cult of Knoll. Carnage is a remnant of Venom and significantly stronger than Venom due to his host, who is a serial killer. The Cult of Knoll worships the god of the abyss, Knoll. This was a dragon that died at the hands of Thor. Some of its living remains then fell to Earth and attached to human hosts.

Cletus Kassidy was cursed many years before he was born. The Cult of Knoll sensed the abyss in him and corrupted his bloodline. When Cletus was Eddi Brock's cellmate, he came into contact with an offspring of Venom. A wound in his hand bound them together and Kassady became Carnage. Some time later, Carnage was severely injured while fighting Venom. Cletus only survived because, in a way, Carnage sacrificed himself for him. He still lived on in Kassady, but was as if inactive. To revive him, the Cult of Knoll administered him a serum: a copy of Grandal. Carnage came into contact with Knoll and was healed again. Knoll is in control of the body for a short time and speaks to it. After killing someone, he calmed down and Knoll disappeared. Carnage was furious and slaughtered half the Cult of Knoll. He wanted to reconnect with the god of the abyss and needed answers. Eventually, he was told that he must kill anyone who had ever been in contact with a symbiote. So his plan was clear: all of them must die! His list now included Wolverine, Spider-Man, Captain America and many more. Will he be able to contact the abyss again?
