DC Comics is, alongside Marvel, one of the largest comic book publishers in the world. The brand is particularly well-known for titles such as Superman and Batman . Other well-known series are Wonder Woman, The Flash and The Joker . The publisher was founded in 1934 as National Allied Publications, and the current name DC is derived from the highly successful Detective Comics series. The headquarters are in New York, USA and DC Comics have been published in German-speaking countries by Panini Verlag, Williams Verlag, Dino Verlag and others. The DC universe includes over 10,000 fictional characters.
