Who are the X-Men?

The X-Men are a group of superheroes led by Charles Francis, Professor X. The first members were five young mutants who have the so-called X-factor gene. Over time, however, personalities such as Wolverine and Thunderbird also joined the group. Professor X teaches members how to better control their abilities. However, many of the mutants are hated and despised by humans. Some use their powers for their own benefit, including the group's nemesis, Magneto. The X-Men were formed to protect the populace from the often hateful, malicious mutants.
