Beginnings and entry into the world of comics

Born in Peekskill, New York, Trimpe developed a love of the world of comics at a young age, showing a particular interest in characters such as Donald Duck and Plastic Man. After graduating from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, his career began at Dell Comics, where he worked primarily on westerns and licensed books.

Service in the Air Force and joining Marvel Comics

Prior to joining Marvel Comics, Trimpe served for four years in the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a weather observer in Vietnam. After his discharge in 1966, he was hired by former classmate John Verpoorten at Marvel Comics, where he worked first as a production employee and later as a freelance artist and inker.
